News and Updates about Samsung

Samsung's stable One UI 9 update, built on Android 17, started landing on US Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 units on Oct. 2, following an earlier stable release in South Korea, TechRepublic reports. The same US push covers the Galaxy S25 lineup alongside the foldables, and the build landing on the Fold 7 and Flip 7 carries firmware CZIH, according to Android Headlines and SammyGuru.

Samsung's next Galaxy flagship lineup may include a new Galaxy S27 Pro, and supply-chain reporting says its Exynos 2700 chip could ship in some regions instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon silicon (India Today, 3 days ago). None of this comes from Samsung. The regional chip map and the production numbers behind the story trace back to a Korean trade outlet, The Elec, and other publications have spent this week relaying and expanding on that reporting.

Xiaomi has now launched the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in China, locking in the camera hardware that was being teased before their Sept. 23 debut. Samsung, meanwhile, hasn't officially revealed the Galaxy S27 Ultra camera system yet, and leakers are still disagreeing over parts of its telephoto setup.

Samsung is boosting compensation as engineers weigh offers from rival SK hynix, but the gap between its memory and foundry businesses remains wide.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 bend test that JerryRigEverything ran this week threw the toughest thing a durability channel can throw at a foldable: reverse-direction flex, the failure mode that has cracked hinges and popped screens loose on lesser phones. The Fold 8 didn't crack, and nothing popped loose (JerryRigEverything, this week).

Samsung raised prices across the Galaxy S26 lineup in the US, UK, Canada, and Europe this week, pushing the base Galaxy S26 from $899 to $999 and the top-tier 1TB Galaxy S26 Ultra to $1,999 (9to5Google, 4 days ago). The Galaxy S26 price increase took effect October 1 and followed earlier increases in India and South Korea (SamMobile, 3 days ago).

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 deal spotted by Tom's Guide puts the foldable at $1,649 on Best Buy's site, a price the outlet called $250 off, in a report published five days ago (Tom's Guide). That listing surfaced roughly two weeks before iPhone Duo preorders open on October 16, with Apple's foldable starting at $1,999 for the 256GB model (Apple Newsroom). If the Best Buy price still holds and both phones are matched on storage, the Fold 8 would land roughly $350 cheaper than Apple's entry-level...

Samsung's own posts about the Galaxy S26 series still describe an active beta program, not a finished software release. The company's August 28 and September 1 updates document expanding beta activity for One UI 9, with no accompanying stable-release note for the Galaxy S26, S26+, or S26 Ultra.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales in South Korea rose roughly 10% week over week in the seven days after Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, according to telecommunications industry sources cited by Yonhap News Agency.

Samsung has started rolling out the Galaxy S26 One UI 9 Beta 6 update, and it's a maintenance release through and through. The changelog reported so far is almost entirely bug fixes, with no headline features attached to this build.

Samsung confirmed Modern Warfare 4 32:9 support yesterday, announcing that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will officially support the 32:9 super-ultrawide aspect ratio at launch (Samsung Global Newsroom, yesterday). The confirmation arrived as part of a broader partnership naming Samsung the official TV, monitor, soundbar and Wi-Fi speaker partner for the game, which also brings Samsung's HDR10+ Gaming format into the title (Samsung Global Newsroom, yesterday; Digital Trends, yesterday).

Samsung has reportedly ordered motherboards for a Galaxy S27 Ultra Exynos 2700 variant, according to MoneyToday. If that plan survives to launch, it would mark the first time an Exynos chip has powered Samsung's Ultra flagship since the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022, a stretch covering four straight years of Snapdragon-only Ultra models (SamMobile).

Samsung's latest 200MP image sensor offers an early look at where its smartphone camera technology is headed, but it is not yet the Galaxy S27 Ultra's confirmed camera sensor.

A newly reported One UI 9 Call Brief time zone feature shows the other person's local time before an international call even connects, according to Android Authority's hands-on report published yesterday. The outlet tested the feature directly on a Galaxy Z Fold 8, watching the recipient's local time appear while dialing an international number, before the call went through.

Leaker Ice Universe says Samsung is preparing a split-screen Privacy Display upgrade for the Galaxy S27 Ultra that would dim only one app window in split-screen mode, even as that window gets resized.

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 leak that surfaced on September 11 centers on one detail that changes how the tracker works in daily use: the built-in loop for a keyring, carabiner, or lanyard appears to be gone.

Chinese regulatory filings are giving the clearest look yet at Galaxy S27 Ultra charging speed and battery capacity, with the rumored Galaxy S27 Pro showing similar charging hardware.

Samsung is reportedly validating the Galaxy S27 series with Qualcomm's unreleased SM8975 chip, which is expected to become the company's next flagship Snapdragon platform. A leaked Qualcomm project-portal screenshot names the Galaxy S27 series broadly rather than singling out the Galaxy S27 Ultra, Pro, Plus, or base model.
