Galaxy S26 owners testing One UI 9 finally have a new build to install after nearly a month without a major beta release. Reports of One UI 9 Beta 5 began appearing on August 12, with the update reaching Galaxy S26-series testers in India.
The release follows Beta 4, which arrived on July 14, and keeps Samsung's Android 17 testing program moving while Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra owners wait for the stable version of One UI 9.
Samsung launched the One UI 9 beta in May for the Galaxy S26 series. The program officially covers Germany, India, South Korea, Poland, the U.K., and the U.S., although individual beta builds can reach those markets at different times.
Beta 5 ends a nearly monthlong gap
The fifth beta follows an unusually long break in the S26 testing cycle. Testers went about four weeks between Beta 4 on July 14 and the first Beta 5 reports on August 12.
Beta 4 brought firmware ending in ZZG4, the July 5 security patch, and a download of roughly 1.25GB. Its changelog focused largely on fixes for the lock screen, Quick Panel, navigation bar, notifications, Bluetooth routines, and other interface problems rather than major new features.
That longer-than-usual wait made Beta 5 more notable, particularly as Samsung moved newer Galaxy devices onto stable One UI 9.
One UI 9 Beta 5 is starting to appear
An August 12 report from an S26 Ultra beta tester shows Beta 5 arriving in India with firmware ending in ZZH6. Samsung has not published a detailed country-by-country rollout schedule for the build, so availability may vary across participating markets.
Galaxy S26 owners already enrolled in the beta can check manually under Settings > Software update > Download and install. Users who have not joined Samsung's beta program should not expect Beta 5 to appear as a normal stable update.
Don't expect a major feature drop
At this stage of the beta cycle, Beta 5 is more about refinement than adding another round of headline features.
One UI 9 itself introduced a more customizable Quick Panel, new Samsung Notes tools, accessibility changes, and additional security protections when testing began in May. Later betas have increasingly focused on fixing bugs and improving stability.
That makes Beta 5 most useful for people already running an earlier test build and waiting for lingering problems to be addressed, rather than users hoping for a substantially redesigned interface.
As with any prerelease software, bugs can still remain. Anyone relying on an S26 as a primary phone should weigh early access against the possibility of app compatibility or stability issues.
Stable One UI 9 is already shipping — just not on the S26
The larger question now is when the Galaxy S26 series will leave beta testing.
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8 on July 22 with Android 17 and One UI 9 preinstalled, putting those newer devices ahead of the S26 line in Samsung's software rollout.
Samsung has not announced a public release date for stable One UI 9 on the Galaxy S26, S26+, or S26 Ultra, nor has it confirmed whether Beta 5 will be the final test build.
For now, Beta 5 closes the long gap after July's fourth release. What Galaxy S26 owners still do not have is the date that matters most: when stable One UI 9 will finally reach their phones.
