Samsung Austria Drops Free Storage Upgrades for Galaxy Z8 Preorders

Samsung Austria has dropped the free storage upgrade from its Galaxy Z8 preorder promotion, requiring buyers to cover part of the cost of moving to a higher-capacity model.

Austria's official preorder terms provide a €100 instant discount on eligible 512GB Galaxy Z8 models and €200 off eligible 1TB configurations. The reduced price appears automatically on the product page and in the cart, with no voucher code required.

The promotion applies to purchases made through Samsung's Austrian online store or Shop app from July 22, 2026, at 3 p.m. through August 7 at 8:59 a.m. local time. It covers the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8, although available storage capacities differ by model.

Samsung's previous preorder deal

Samsung has regularly used free storage upgrades to encourage early orders for its flagship phones. Under the previous structure, buyers could order a 512GB phone for the 256GB price or, on eligible models, receive 1TB for the 512GB price.

Austria's new offer does not eliminate the storage incentive, but it reduces its value. Buyers choosing a higher-capacity phone now receive a fixed discount instead of the next storage tier at no additional charge.

Previous vs. current storage offer

256GB to 512GB

  • Previous preorder offer: Buyers received the 512GB model for the 256GB price.

  • Current Austrian offer: Samsung applies a €100 discount to the 512GB model.

512GB to 1TB

  • Previous preorder offer: Eligible buyers received the 1TB model for the 512GB price.

  • Current Austrian offer: Samsung applies a €200 discount to eligible 1TB models.

How the discount is applied

  • Previous preorder offer: The free storage upgrade was reflected in the preorder price.

  • Current Austrian offer: The discount is applied automatically on the product page and in the cart, with no voucher code required.

How the new storage discounts work

Buyers must select the higher-capacity version to receive the corresponding reduction. Purchasing a 256GB model does not generate a separate €100 credit for accessories or other Samsung products.

Under the former offer, the price of the lower-capacity phone covered the next storage tier. The current Austrian promotion instead subsidizes part of the upgrade, leaving buyers to pay the remaining price difference.

Samsung has not publicly explained why it changed the storage promotion in Austria. Prelaunch reports connected the expected reduction to rising memory costs, but the company's final Austrian terms do not identify a reason.

What else Austrian buyers can get

Samsung is offering other incentives alongside the storage reductions, but eligibility and campaign dates vary.

Customers who choose Klarna at checkout can receive a separate reduction applied in the cart during the preorder period. Samsung also offers three months of Samsung Care+ at no charge with an eligible device. Unless canceled, the selected protection plan begins charging its regular monthly price in the fourth month.

Buyers who add Samsung Care+ to a Galaxy Z8 order can also receive a compatible cover. That promotion is limited to adults with an Austrian delivery address and runs through August 25, 2026, later than the storage promotion.

Trade-in credits are available separately and depend on the model and condition of the devices exchanged. Samsung accepts as many as three eligible smartphones, tablets, or smartwatches, including some damaged devices, but the quoted value is confirmed only after assessment.

These benefits should be evaluated separately. A subscription trial, conditional payment discount, trade-in estimate, and direct reduction in the phone's price do not provide the same value to every buyer.

Austria's deal is not a global policy

Samsung has not adopted the same preorder structure in every country. In the Philippines, the company is still offering double storage on Galaxy Z8 preorders placed through August 13, 2026.

That regional difference shows that Austria's reduced storage subsidy is not evidence of a worldwide end to Samsung's free-upgrade promotion. Offers can vary by country, retailer, and carrier, even when the same devices launch at the same time.

Buyers outside Austria should check their local Samsung store before ordering. Depending on the market, preorder packages may emphasize free storage, trade-in credits, accessories, financing, or subscription benefits.

For Austrian buyers, the calculation is straightforward: additional storage is discounted during the preorder period, but it is no longer free.
