Samsung's latest foldable lineup has broken a Galaxy preorder record in South Korea that had stood since 2019. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8 drew more than 1.44 million preorders during a seven-day reservation period, surpassing the roughly 1.38 million recorded by the Galaxy Note10 series seven years earlier.
It is not a perfect comparison. Samsung's 2026 total covers three foldable models, while the 2019 benchmark came from the two-model Galaxy Note10 series. Still, the result gives Samsung its strongest Galaxy preorder showing yet in its home market.
Samsung's Fold8 lineup breaks a seven-year Galaxy record
Samsung opened South Korean preorders from July 28 through Aug. 3, giving the Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 seven days to reach the combined 1.44 million figure.
That was enough to overtake the Galaxy Note10 series, which recorded 1.38 million preorders over 11 days in August 2019.
The shorter preorder window makes the new result notable, although preorders still measure early demand rather than completed sales.
The standard Fold8 appears to be the breakout model
The regular Fold8 is emerging as a major part of the lineup's early momentum. Samsung said Z8-series preorders increased more than 30% in South Korea compared with the previous generation, while the standard Fold8 accounted for nearly half of Z8-series preorders. The company also said three times as many existing Flip users are moving to a Fold model this generation.
That is a notable shift from some earlier Galaxy Z launches. In South Korea in 2023, the Galaxy Z Flip5 accounted for about 70% of combined Flip5 and Fold5 preorders.
The Fold8 itself is also a significant redesign. At 201 grams, with a 10:16 cover display and 4:3 inner screen, it is Samsung's lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet and has a wider, shorter shape than earlier generations. Samsung also introduced its Flex Titanium display structure as part of its effort to make the foldable thinner while improving durability.
Samsung's foldables hit a faster preorder pace in India
India delivered another strong early result. Samsung said the Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 surpassed 271,000 preorders within 72 hours of their July 22 launch. The Fold7 and Flip7 took about 15 days to reach a comparable total.
Samsung also said 45% of the new preorders came from Tier 2 cities and beyond, pointing to demand outside India's biggest metropolitan areas.
Pricing and financing are important context. Indian launch prices start at ₹124,999 (about $1,312) for the Flip8, ₹179,999 (about $1,889) for the Fold8, and ₹199,999 (about $2,099) for the Fold8 Ultra. Samsung paired the phones with up to 30 months of no-cost EMI with zero down payment through select financing partners.
Those incentives lower the upfront barrier on phones that remain firmly in premium territory, so some of the preorder acceleration may reflect the strength of Samsung's launch offers as well as demand for the devices themselves.
The preorder record now faces the sales test
Samsung's new foldables moved beyond the preorder phase when general availability began Aug. 7. The 1.44 million figure establishes strong launch demand in South Korea, but sustained sales will determine whether that momentum lasts beyond the initial reservation period.
The more interesting shift may be within Samsung's own foldable lineup. The standard Fold8 captured nearly half of reported Z8-series preorders in South Korea, while more Flip users appear to be moving toward Samsung's larger book-style foldable.
The seven-year preorder record gives Samsung a strong launch headline. Whether buyers keep choosing the Fold8 after launch will say more about where its foldable business is heading next.
