I have GMail installed - can see it in Apps Manager... have tried resetting it to factory settings... re-booting... still cannot find the icon so only way I can start it is through either app manager or play store. How do I get the icon?

Did your device recently update?
Have you tried to uninstall the app from the App Manager, then re-install it from the Play Store?
If you are unable to uninstall the app, you can try the "Uninstall updates" option, then update the app through the Play Store.
