Samsung Certified Re-Newed Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 Cost More Than New Right Now
Samsung added the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 to its Certified Re-Newed program today, offering manufacturer-refurbished foldables rebuilt with genuine Samsung parts, a certified new battery, and a full one-year warranty. The Samsung Certified Re-Newed Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at $1,699. The new one is currently $1,599. The refurbished Flip 7 opens at $939; the new version is on sale for $899, per 9to5Google.
That inversion runs through the entry-level tier of both devices and shapes everything about how this launch lands.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 Certified Re-Newed pricing vs. new: what the numbers show
Against retail list prices, the refurbished units look like real savings. Here's the full breakdown, per 9to5Google:
Model Retail list price Re-Newed price Discount vs. list
Galaxy Z Fold 7 (256GB) $1,999.99:$1,699.00-$300
Galaxy Z Fold 7 (512GB) $2,199.99:$1,749.00-$450
Galaxy Z Fold 7 (1TB) $2,499.99:$1,879.00-$620
Galaxy Z Flip 7 (256GB) $1,099.99:$939.00-$160
Galaxy Z Flip 7 (512GB) $1,299.99:$989.00-$310
The problem is that Samsung is not currently charging those list prices. New Fold 7 units are selling for $1,599 and new Flip 7 units for $899, making the refurbished entry-level models $100 and $40 more expensive, respectively.
Certified Re-Newed pricing is anchored to retail list price, not to whatever Samsung happens to be charging on a given day. When Samsung runs deep promotional discounts on new hardware, the two price tracks can cross. That's the structural issue here, not a flaw in the refurbishment process.
Trade-in credits of up to $580 are available on Certified Re-Newed purchases for buyers with a qualifying device, Samsung announced today. Whether comparable trade-in offers apply to new-device purchases is worth checking directly on Samsung.com, since the answer affects the true out-of-pocket gap. Samsung's promotional pricing on new hardware also won't hold indefinitely, so the comparison will look different depending on when you're reading this.
What Samsung Certified Re-Newed foldables actually include
The quality credentials draw a clear line between this program and the broader third-party refurbished phone market sold through marketplace sellers.
Every unit passes more than 100 quality checks performed by Samsung specialists and is rebuilt using 100% genuine Samsung parts, including a certified new battery. Devices are fully wiped, reset to factory condition, and backed by the same one-year manufacturer warranty as a new Galaxy, Samsung's global newsroom confirmed in January. That warranty equivalence is what separates a Certified Re-Newed device from virtually anything available through a third-party reseller.
Refurbished units also ship in a new recyclable box with included accessories packaged similarly to a new device, per Samsung's global newsroom. Anyone who has received a third-party refurb with a fraying cable and no charger will understand why that matters.
Certified Re-Newed foldables are eligible for Samsung Care+, covering unlimited drops, spills, mechanical breakdowns, and theft or loss, per today's announcement. That coverage typically isn't available for phones purchased through third-party refurbishers, where Samsung has no visibility into the device's prior condition.
On the hardware side, both foldables feature restructured hinges and reinforced foldable displays, and the Fold 7 opens to an 8-inch display, according to Samsung. Samsung also incorporates recycled materials across a range of components in both devices. The refurbishment process doesn't change the underlying hardware; these are the same phones.
Color availability is narrower than on new devices. The refurbished Fold 7 comes in silver, blue, and black; the refurbished Flip 7 is offered only in Mint, 9to5Google notes. Buyers with specific color preferences should confirm options before committing.
Both devices are available exclusively on Samsung.com in the U.S. Samsung expanded the Certified Re-Newed program to France, Germany, and the UK earlier this year, but that rollout started with the Galaxy S25 series; the international availability of Certified Re-Newed foldables in those markets has not been announced, per Samsung's global newsroom.
A program that's moving faster than expected
Samsung first brought foldables into the Certified Re-Newed lineup last August, starting with the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, per the original US newsroom announcement. Less than a year later, the program has moved up two foldable generations. Samsung frames the expansion as part of a broader commitment to "extending the life of Galaxy devices" and offering customers "more choices," per today's announcement.
That pace matters beyond the immediate pricing question. A refurbished program that cycles in newer devices quickly can function as a genuine secondary market channel rather than a clearance mechanism for discontinued inventory. The international S25 rollout points in the same direction.
Right now, the numbers favor buying new for anyone prioritizing upfront cost. But Samsung's current promotional pricing won't hold indefinitely, and when full retail prices return, the refurbished discount against list becomes real money: $300 off the entry-level Fold 7, up to $620 off the 1TB model. The Certified Re-Newed program will still be there when that happens, and it will be a more straightforward case.
