How To: Top 10 Must-Have Free Games for Your Samsung Galaxy S3

It may not be as large as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, but the Galaxy S3's screen size is still big enough to make iPhone owners cry themselves to sleep. The 4.8-inch AMOLED display with 720 x 1280 pixels makes the GS3 a great mobile companion—and an even better portable gaming device.

But what are the best games out there for your GS3? There are literally thousands to choose from on Google Play, so where do you start? Below, I've gathered together my top 10 favorite games on my GS3 right now, from puzzle games to sports and shooters.

1. Into the Dead by PIKPOK

Into the Dead is a somewhat unique take on the classic zombie genre; think Temple Run and The Walking Dead combined. The game looks phenomenal, using minimal color and a bleak setting, the grass and zombies seem to pop off the GS3's display.

The controls are pretty simple, and you even have a few different sets you can choose from (Tilt, Touch, Thumbstick, Thumbstick Mirrored). I found that Tilt was the most comfortable for me.

Along the way, you can collect coins and unlock and equip perks that will help you survive the run.

All in all, Into the Dead is a great, free game that you can seriously play for a long time. Beyond just beating your personal best in survivor mode, you can unlock Massacre and Hardcore modes.

2. Hungry Shark Evolution by Future Games of London

Hungry Shark Evolution is an already wildly popular game with millions of downloads, coming from the same folks who brought us Hungry Shark 1, 2, and 3—all really great. Evolution is pretty much the same, where you eat to survive and collect coins and hidden items to level up your shark and EVOLVE.

You can chose between the recommended Tilt controls or the on-screen Touch thumbsticks, which I preferred.

Dive into the ocean and obliterate humans, swordfish, and sea turtles while avoiding poisonous jellyfish, WWII mines, and other dangers.

Sharks aren't just cool during Shark Week people. I thought I was going to be vastly underwhelmed by this game, but I ended up playing it for an hour without even noticing.

3. Monster Shooter 2 by Gamelion Studios

Monster Shooter 2 is the sequel to the runaway hit Monster Shooter, and the concept is pretty simple—aliens baddies are trying to destroy the earth—you can't let that happen.

Utilizing the familiar dual-stick approach, you control DumDum and a massive arsenal of weapons and mech suits to destroy all incoming enemies.

In addition to the multiplayer social aspect of the game, there is also a co-op option.

4. Super Stickman Golf 2 by Noodlecake Studios

Video games are the only place where I can pretend to know what I'm doing when it comes to golf. You give me a power meter and a backspin power up and I'm the closest thing to a virtual Tiger Woods you can find. And that's exactly how I feel with Super Stickman Golf 2.

After a brief tutorial you can begin shooting for eagles on the front nine.

The better you score the quicker you level up and unlock cool power-ups and customizable additions to your stickman or stickwoman. There are a ton of levels to beat and bunch of achievements to unlock that'll have you occupied for hours.

5. Robot Unicorn Attack 2 by [Adult Swim] Games

Everyone in America has a weak spot for unicorns, so when the company released multiple commercials featuring the launch of "Unicorn Apocalypse," people were wondered if the game was even real. Turns out the game was real—a real stinker.

Unicorn Apocalypse was poorly received and removed from Google Play in a matter of weeks, but if you still want your daily unicorn fix, then Robot Unicorn Attack 2 is the game for you.

It's a classic side-scrolling games that asks you to jump, dash, and glide through very dynamic worlds, collecting fairies and stars along the way.

6. Dots: A Game About Connecting by Playdots, Inc.

K.I.S.S. is a term I've heard a lot throughout my years. Keep it simple stupid. If you want something low-key and equally entertaining, then you need to check out Dots. It's like Boggle, but even easier because instead of making words from letters, you just match colored dots instead.

The game has two modes: Timed (60 seconds) and Moves (30 moves). For each mode you want to create as many connections (2 dots or more) as possible in the given amount of time or moves.

The games are quick and the connections are endless.

7. Squarescape by Noodlecake Studios

Squarescape is an old-school-style brain teaser and puzzle game that I couldn't stop playing. The object of the game is simple, move the square over the blue dot and exit the level in as few moves as possible.

The square will go in a selected direction until it hits a wall or other element and can only be moved again once it has stopped. There are tons of levels that get harder to solve, making the game challenging and very addicting.

8. CSR Racing by NaturalMotionGames

I would have put this game on the list just because of the unreal graphics; CSR Racing is easily one of the best looking games you will find for your GS3.

It doesn't stray very far from the standard racing plot, though. You purchase and tune up cars, race against other squads, and take on events to earn cash and experience.

While the game does look great and is free, you have to grind out tons of races in order to have a car decent enough to continue racing more difficult opponents.

Plus, when you do finally level up, you only receive ONE coin. For reference, a starter level BMW 1 would cost you 21 coins. I personally would rather pay a few bucks for an app than have the in-game prices so high that it forces people to buy in-app purchases. So, CSR Racing does make my list because it is fun and beautiful, but does have its drawbacks.

9. Bloons TD Battles by Ninja Kiwi

I've been obsessed with Bloons since my addiction to Addicting Games in the 8th grade. Bloons TD Battles takes the awesomeness of its original tower defense origins and puts your skills against an online opponent.

In Assault Mode, you'll need to protect your own tower while sending balloons over to your opponent. In Defensive mode, you'll need to outlast your opponent in an onslaught of balloons. You can connect and play against Facebook friends or start a Quick Match with a random opponent.

10. Tetris by EA (Electronic Arts)

I don't think there can be a top ten games list without Tetris. This games has withstood the times with such ease, it's a testament to how fun and addicting Tetris really is.

I think most people know how the game works, but you must fit the Tetris pieces together as they fall down the screen. Fitting multiple pieces together will increase bonuses, as well as removing the rows. Tetris has four awesome game modes and can seriously be played for hours on end.
