Samsung Could Launch Six Galaxy Z Phones in 2027, Including One That Slides

Samsung's foldable phones could look considerably different in 2027. A new leak suggests the company is preparing six Galaxy Z devices, including three versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 9, a second-generation TriFold, and a phone with a screen that slides outward instead of unfolding.

The rumored expansion would double the number of models Samsung introduced in its 2026 Galaxy Z lineup. But there is an important catch: Samsung has not confirmed the six-device roadmap, and earlier industry reports describe a different lineup and launch timeline. The Galaxy Z Slide, arguably the most unusual device on the list, remains especially uncertain.

For anyone considering a foldable upgrade, the rumor raises an interesting possibility: Samsung could offer more screen sizes and designs without requiring everyone to choose between the familiar Flip and Fold formats.

Six Galaxy Z phones are reportedly planned for 2027

The claim comes from tipster Anthony (@TheGalox_), who posted the alleged lineup on X on October 14, 2026. As reported by 9to5Google, the leak identifies six potential Galaxy Z devices and suggests improvements in battery life, thickness, and weight across the range.

The rumored models are:

  • Galaxy Z Flip 9: The expected successor to Samsung's compact clamshell phone, which folds vertically to fit more easily into a pocket.

  • Galaxy Z Fold 9: A possible successor to Samsung's standard book-style foldable, offering a larger display when opened.

  • Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra: A continuation of Samsung's premium Fold category, although its hardware upgrades have not been disclosed.

  • Galaxy Z Fold 9 Pro: An additional Fold variant that could sit alongside the standard and Ultra models. Its positioning remains unknown.

  • Galaxy Z TriFold 2: A proposed successor to Samsung's multi-panel folding phone, offering an even larger display when fully unfolded.

  • Galaxy Z Slide: A rumored device with a flexible screen that extends through a sliding or rolling mechanism rather than a conventional hinge.

The tipster also claims the TriFold 2 would be the first device released, but provides no launch date or detailed schedule. There is no indication that all six phones would arrive at the same event.

Three Fold 9 variants would be particularly interesting. The existing standard and Ultra models already serve different needs, so adding a Pro could create another choice between portability, display size, hardware capabilities, and price. However, Samsung has not disclosed how those three rumored devices would differ.

The idea of a broader Galaxy Z portfolio did not begin with the October leak. In August 2026, ETNews reporting summarized by TrendForce indicated that Samsung had initiated two wide-fold development projects for its next generation of devices. That report described a possible five-model lineup, including another wide-format foldable.

The earlier account lends context to Samsung's potential expansion, but it does not independently confirm the Fold 9 Pro, Galaxy Z Slide, or the latest six-device list. Those details still depend heavily on one tipster's claim.

The Galaxy Z Slide could change how a phone expands

Among the six rumored devices, the Galaxy Z Slide stands apart because it would abandon the familiar folding mechanism.

Instead of opening a phone around a hinge, a slidable design could extend part of its flexible display from within the body. The device would remain relatively compact when retracted, then reveal additional screen space when needed.

Samsung Display has already demonstrated technology along those lines. At Mobile World Congress in March 2026, its Mobile Slidable concept expanded vertically from a 5.1-inch screen to 6.7 inches.

The demonstration showed a functioning approach to expandable displays, although it was not a finished Galaxy smartphone. Samsung has not confirmed whether a commercial Z Slide would use the same mechanism, dimensions, or screen proportions.

For everyday use, the appeal is easy to imagine. A compact screen could handle messages, calls, and quick app interactions. Extending it might provide more room for reading webpages, browsing photos, or watching videos without opening a book-style phone.

A longer display could also change how certain apps use screen space. Reading interfaces might reveal more content at once, while supported multitasking layouts could potentially take advantage of the expanded area. Whether those experiences would work smoothly depends on the hardware and software Samsung ultimately delivers.

The bigger obstacle may be turning the concept into a durable consumer product. A sliding phone needs a reliable moving mechanism, protection for the flexible OLED panel, and enough internal space for components that cannot move with the display. These challenges differ from those faced by conventional folding phones.

Even the reported launch timing remains disputed. In June 2026, South Korea's Money Today was cited in coverage of Samsung's rollable-phone development suggesting a possible commercial debut in the first half of 2028.

That is later than the 2027 date in the newest leak. Samsung has not publicly committed to either schedule, and there is no verified evidence that it has accelerated the project.

The technology is promising, but a trade-show demonstration does not establish that a Galaxy Z Slide is ready for production.

Samsung's current foldables offer clues about the next generation

Samsung already expanded its foldable portfolio in 2026. During its July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event, the company introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8, giving buyers three distinct approaches to foldable hardware.

The Flip 8 emphasizes portability, with a cover screen that supports everyday interactions without opening the phone. The Fold 8 offers a larger display for entertainment, reading, and multitasking, while the Fold 8 Ultra places greater emphasis on expansive screen space and premium hardware.

The differences extend to their physical designs. Samsung lists the Fold 8 at 201 grams with a 7.6-inch main display, while the Fold 8 Ultra weighs 215 grams and opens to an 8-inch screen.

The Ultra also measures just 4.1 mm thick when unfolded and includes a 5,000 mAh battery. In a July 2026 engineering interview, Samsung described more than 100 reliability validation tests covering conditions such as repeated folding, drops, pressure, moisture, and debris.

Those specifications show how Samsung has refined its existing foldable designs. They do not, however, prove that an entirely different sliding mechanism would offer comparable durability or battery performance.

The rumored TriFold 2 has a more established starting point. Samsung has already brought a multi-panel folding device to market, demonstrating that the design can progress beyond a prototype. A successor could build on that experience, although its specifications, production scale, and availability remain unconfirmed.

An expanded lineup would also create new considerations for app developers. More display dimensions and unconventional screen shapes could place greater importance on responsive interfaces, particularly for apps that transition between compact and expanded layouts.

For users, the quality of that software adaptation could matter just as much as the hardware itself. A larger display is useful only when apps can take advantage of the extra space comfortably.

Should you wait for Samsung's 2027 Galaxy Z phones?

The six-device rumor gives Samsung enthusiasts plenty to consider, but it offers little concrete guidance for anyone planning an immediate purchase.

The current Flip 8, Fold 8, and Fold 8 Ultra provide known specifications and established designs. Buyers can compare their screens, cameras, software features, portability, and local prices rather than guessing which upgrades might arrive next year.

The rumored Fold 9 Pro could eventually provide another option, but there is no verified reason to expect it to be cheaper or more capable than a current Ultra model. The same uncertainty surrounds the next TriFold, whose larger form factor could appeal to heavy multitaskers but may not suit those prioritizing portability.

The Galaxy Z Slide is an even greater unknown. Samsung Display has shown that an extending screen can work, but a commercial device would still need to demonstrate durability, practical battery life, and software that makes its unusual form factor useful.

Further supply-chain reporting, regulatory filings, and official Samsung announcements could help clarify which devices are genuinely approaching release.

Until then, the existing Galaxy Z lineup remains the more reliable basis for a buying decision. The possibilities for 2027 are intriguing, particularly a phone that expands without folding, but the real breakthrough will come when Samsung shows how those designs improve everyday use—and which ones buyers can actually purchase.
