Samsung Galaxy A18 vs Galaxy A08: Screen, Camera, Battery

Samsung Galaxy A18 vs Galaxy A08: Screen, Camera, Battery

Samsung's Galaxy A08 is already on sale in the Philippines, while the Galaxy A18 won't land until December 2026. Both phones run the same MediaTek Helio G99+ chipset, which means the real Samsung Galaxy A18 vs Galaxy A08 comparison comes down to screen quality, camera hardware, and battery capacity rather than raw processing power.

Samsung announced both phones for the Philippine market on Oct. 27, pairing identical processors and LPDDR5 memory across the two devices, according to TechRepublic and Samsung Newsroom Philippines. The A08 starts at ₱11,190 for the 4GB/64GB model and is available now, while Samsung has not released a Philippine price for the A18 ahead of its December arrival, per Samsung Newsroom Philippines. That gap leaves buyers weighing a confirmed, lower-cost phone against an unpriced one with a better screen and camera setup.

What the Galaxy A18 and Galaxy A08 have in common

Both phones share the Helio G99+ chipset, LPDDR5 RAM, and RAM Plus support for turning spare storage into virtual memory during multitasking, according to TechRepublic and GSMArena. Samsung is also backing both models with the same long-term support window: up to six generations of OS upgrades, six years of security patches, and Knox Vault hardware-based data protection, per Samsung Newsroom Philippines.

Both carry an IP64 rating, which covers dust and splash resistance but not submersion, TechRepublic reported. They also ship with identical AI features, including enhanced Circle to Search, Find the Look for identifying outfits, and voice-activated access to Gemini or Perplexity across supported apps, according to Samsung Newsroom Philippines.

On paper, the A08 isn't a stripped-down version of the A18. Performance, AI access, and software support are identical between the two, which pushes the entire buying decision onto display, camera, and battery differences.

Galaxy A18 camera and display: what actually changes

Samsung confirms the A18 carries a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display at 90Hz in its Philippine launch materials, Samsung Newsroom Philippines reported. The Philippine announcement doesn't spell out the A08's panel type, but Samsung's India and Singapore newsroom posts describe a 6.7-inch HD+ PLS LCD display, also at 90Hz, for the same phone, according to Samsung Newsroom India and Samsung Newsroom Singapore. Buyers should treat that as a regionally published spec rather than a locally confirmed one until the Philippine retail listing matches it.

The camera gap is clearer and does come from Philippine materials. The A18 gets three rear cameras, a 50MP main sensor, 5MP ultrawide, and 2MP macro, while the A08's rear setup pairs a 50MP main sensor with a 2MP depth camera and no ultrawide, per Samsung Newsroom Philippines. That's a meaningful difference for anyone who shoots group photos or landscapes regularly.

A separate wrinkle: Samsung's Indonesia spec sheet lists the A18's front camera at 13MP, compared with the A08's 8MP selfie camera, according to Samsung Newsroom Indonesia. Philippine materials don't confirm that selfie-camera figure locally, so it's worth checking Samsung's Philippine product page once the A18 actually launches rather than assuming the Indonesian spec carries over unchanged.

Galaxy A08 6000mAh battery vs the A18's unconfirmed cell

The A08's headline feature is its 6,000mAh battery, which Samsung positions as the phone's main selling point in Philippine launch materials, according to TechRepublic and Samsung Newsroom Philippines. GSMArena and Samsung's India newsroom both list 25W wired charging alongside that battery, though the Philippine announcement itself doesn't spell out the charging wattage, per GSMArena.

Samsung hasn't disclosed the A18's battery capacity for the Philippines at all. A Samsung Indonesia spec table lists the A18 at 5,000mAh with matching 25W charging, according to Samsung Newsroom Indonesia. If that figure carries over to the Philippine version, the A08 would hold a 1,000mAh edge, but that comparison isn't established for the local market until Samsung confirms it.

Samsung India separately claims the A08 delivers 22% longer video playback than its predecessor, the Galaxy A06, a company comparison rather than independent testing, per Samsung Newsroom India. Philippine launch materials don't include an hour-based battery-life estimate for either phone, and the supplied materials for this comparison don't include independent test results for either device, TechRepublic noted. The A08's larger cell is a reasonable bet for longer runtime, but it remains a paper advantage until someone runs both phones through actual screen-on-time testing.

Samsung Galaxy A18 vs A08 price in the Philippines

The A08 is the only one of the two with a confirmed local price right now.

Model Philippine price Availability
Galaxy A08, 4GB/64GB ₱11,190 Available now
Galaxy A08, 4GB/128GB ₱13,090 Available now
Galaxy A18 Not yet announced December 2026

Samsung is also running a cash-purchase promotion through Nov. 30, 2026, that drops the A08's price to as low as ₱9,990 for the 64GB model and ₱11,990 for the 128GB model at authorized Samsung stores, per Samsung Newsroom Philippines.

For regional context, the A18 launched in Indonesia earlier this month at Rp4.299.000 for a 4GB/128GB configuration, a different storage tier than the A08's Philippine listings, according to Samsung Newsroom Indonesia. That figure offers a rough sense of where the A18 sits globally, but Samsung hasn't said what it will charge in the Philippines, so there's no way yet to calculate the actual price gap between the two phones locally.

What to do before buying

Both phones run identical hardware underneath, which means the decision isn't about performance at all. It's about whether a sharper AMOLED screen and a third rear camera are worth paying more for, and waiting longer to get.

Buyers who need a phone immediately and prioritize battery life have a confirmed, discounted option in the A08 through the Nov. 30 promotion. Buyers who want the AMOLED display and ultrawide camera should hold off until Samsung publishes an official Philippine price and release date for the A18, and should avoid treating the Indonesian battery, charging, or front-camera figures as confirmed specs until Samsung's local listing says otherwise.
