Samsung Budget Galaxy Phone Price Hikes in the US: A17-A57

Samsung Budget Galaxy Phone Price Hikes in the US: A17-A57

Samsung budget Galaxy phone price hikes in the US have landed on four models that are already on sale, not a new generation revealed at launch. The Galaxy A17 5G, A27 5G, A37 5G, and A57 5G all carry higher Samsung.com prices this week than they did before, according to SamMobile and Engadget, which both reported the new figures.

Anyone shopping for one of these phones right now will pay more than buyers did at launch. The steepest jump hit Samsung's cheapest smartphone in the US: the Galaxy A17 5G climbed from $200 to $270, a $70 increase spread across two separate hikes, including one in August, according to SamMobile and Engadget.

The timing lines up with a broader repricing. These A-series increases followed last week's hikes on Samsung's high-end Galaxy S26 lineup, SamMobile reports, and those flagship increases reportedly ran about $100, according to The Verge. Budget and mid-range phones weren't spared from the same round of changes.

Galaxy A17, A27, A37, and A57 new prices

Here's how each model's Samsung.com listing compares with its launch price, based on reporting from SamMobile and Engadget:

Model Launch price Current price Increase
Galaxy A17 5G $200 $270 +$70 (about 35%)
Galaxy A27 5G $350 $380 +$30
Galaxy A37 5G $450 $490 +$40
Galaxy A57 5G $550 $600 +$50

These figures reflect Samsung's own listed prices on samsung.com. Nothing in the reporting reviewed here establishes whether carrier or third-party retail listings match these exact numbers, so check each channel separately before buying.

The A57 line needs one clarification. The Verge lists the phone's prior and current prices as $549 and $599 rather than $550 and $600, a small rounding gap between outlets rather than a disagreement about the size of the hike. Either way, the current price lands roughly $100 above the $499 starting price of the Galaxy A56 it replaced, per The Verge's citation of Android Authority. The A57 had already launched $50 above the A56 earlier this year, according to SamMobile, and this month's hike added another $50 on top of that.

The A37 followed a similar pattern. It launched at $450, a $50 increase over the prior A36's $399 starting price that Cedar Report covered when the phone was announced in March. SamMobile now confirms the A37 lists for $490 on Samsung.com, which puts it $91 above where the A36 started before either of these increases happened.

Why the Galaxy A17 5G price increase matters most

The A17 5G remains Samsung's cheapest smartphone in the US, SamMobile notes, but $270 is a different number than the roughly $200 entry point Samsung has held for years. Samsung's last phone priced near that mark, the Galaxy A16 5G, launched at $199.99 in January 2025 and went on sale through national retailers, carriers, and Samsung.com on the same day, according to Samsung's own announcement.

The reported price leaves Samsung's current cheapest US phone at $270, a figure worth noting if a sub-$200 Samsung device has been the plan.

Samsung isn't the only phone maker moving budget pricing upward. Google has also raised the Pixel 10a's price, from $499 to $599, according to Engadget. That's one comparison point, not proof of an industry-wide trend, but it shows Samsung's budget-phone repricing isn't an isolated move.

What Samsung's April announcement did and didn't explain

When Samsung introduced the Galaxy A37 5G and A57 5G earlier this year, the company pointed to a list of software and hardware upgrades to justify the newer, higher launch prices. The centerpiece was Awesome Intelligence, a suite of AI features including Voice Transcription, which lets the Voice Recorder app convert speech to text and translate across languages, plus an expanded Circle to Search that can now identify multiple objects in one pass and an AI Select tool that suggests actions like saving images or creating GIFs, according to Samsung's newsroom announcement.

On the hardware side, Samsung cited an improved Object Eraser for photo editing, a triple rear camera system with a 5MP macro lens, and Nightography upgrades aimed at cityscapes and low-light scenes. The A57 specifically got a slimmer 6.9mm chassis, a 13% larger vapor chamber, a 5,000mAh battery, and Super Fast Charging 2.0, which Samsung says can reach 60% in about 30 minutes with a compatible charger, per the same Samsung newsroom announcement.

Those are launch-time feature claims tied to the spring release, not an explanation for the separate price increases that hit these same phones again this month. None of the reports reviewed for this piece include a Samsung statement tying the newest US prices to tariffs, component costs, currency shifts, or margin strategy.

Cedar Report attributed the higher A37 and A57 launch prices to parts shortages and rising costs across the phone industry, when it covered the phones' announcement ahead of their April 9 launch, noting the $50 jump over the prior A36 and A56 models sparked questions about value, according to Cedar Report. The supplied reporting does not include supplier data or a Samsung statement confirming that explanation, and it does not establish that it caused this month's later hikes on top of the original launch prices.

What to check before buying a Galaxy A series phone now

Confirm the current price directly on Samsung.com before buying, and compare it against whatever a carrier or retailer lists for the same model. The reporting here confirms Samsung's own listed prices moved; it doesn't establish whether every retail channel reflects the exact same numbers, so checking at the point of sale is the only way to know what a given buyer will actually pay.

Don't expect a near-term discount, either. SamMobile's reporting suggests prices aren't likely to come down over the next couple of years, though that's the outlet's own read on the situation rather than a Samsung commitment.

Buyers weighing the A37 or A57 at their new $490 and $600 price points should treat the value question as unresolved. Samsung's spring announcement laid out its own feature claims for cameras, battery life, and performance, but none of the reporting reviewed here includes independent testing of those claims against other phones at the same price. Compare independent reviews when available, and verify the live price on Samsung.com and with a carrier before deciding whether either phone is worth the new number.
